The Trojan UVPhox™for the Alamitos Barrier Recycled Water Project provides treatment of NDMA while disinfecting.

Case Studies

Trojan Technologies has a growing installed base of its UV solutions for Environmental Contaminant Treatment (ECT). We continue to provide leadership in this important arena with UV solutions in the following applications:

  • Wastewater treatment for water reuse
  • Wastewater discharge treatment
  • Municipal drinking water treatment
  • Groundwater remediation
  • Industrial discharge and process water treatment
  • Selected Case Studies

NDMA was discovered in the drinking water of several communities in the San Gabriel Valley, California, USA, in the late 1990's. Trojan is the UV solution provider for five water entities that will eventually treat over 50 million gallons of water per day in the San Gabriel Valley. One such provider is the La Puente Valley County Water District. Click on the following link for more information: NDMA in Drinking Water: La Puente Valley County Water District

NDMA is a disinfection by-product in wastewater treatment. Before wastewater can successfully be reused in indirect potable reuse applications, NDMA must be treated. The Alamitos Barrier Recycled Water Project near Long Beach, is pioneering the use of UV for NDMA treatment in water reuse. Many water providers today are implementing multiple barrier treatment strategies. UV-oxidation systems provide a barrier to environmental contaminants such as pesticides and other micropollutants, while simultaneously disinfecting. The PWN Water Supply Company of the Netherlands is a leader in the use of UV for these purposes. Click on the following link for more information: A Barrier to Micropollutants while Disinfecting: PWN Water Supply Company

1,4-Dioxane is an additive to many solvents in which it acts as a stabilizer, preventing solvent breakdown during use. The chemical characteristics of 1,4-dioxane, however, make it a persistent and mobile water contaminant that is not easily treated with conventional air-stripping or carbon-adsorption processes. The TrojanUVPhox™, however, performs  efficient, cost-effective treatment of 1,4-dioxane, and is being used in Stockton, California, USA. Click on the following link for more information: 1,4-Dioxane in Groundwater: Stockton
